Prof. Dr. XIE Heping was born in 1956, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor of Engineering Mechanics and Geomechanics, Vice Chairman of Chinese Coal Society, Vice Chairman of Chinese Coal Industry Society, Vice Chairman of Chinese Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering Society, Member of IGMCA and International Center for Materials and Physics of Chinese Academy of Science. He has worked as a visiting professor at the University of Utah, USA; University of Southampton, UK; Silesian University of Technology, Poland and Hannover University, Germany. In September 2007, Prof. Dr. Xie Heping was awarded an honorary doctorate from Clausthal University of Technology.
